The Pocket Trail

LOOKING FOR A CHALLENGE?

The Pocket Trail is perfect for those who are looking for a more challenging full day or multi-day hike, that pays off in spectacular views! Explore glaciated valleys, flower-filled meadows, and even spot mountain goats. This trail is a u-shaped trail that runs six miles round trip, with an elevation change of +1,500 feet.

This trail is definitely not for the faint of heart. To reach the trailhead you will need to allow 1.5 to 2 hours of driving time from Beaver because the last 10 miles are narrow, bumpy, and dangerous!  Drive up Beaver Canyon to mm 16 and turn left on FR 123 towards Big John’s Flat.  Any car can travel the five miles to Big John’s, but beyond this, you will probably damage your car.  Best left to trucks and OHVs because this road is part of the Paiute 01 ATV trail and it can get bumpy.  Once you summit the ridge above Mud Lake, continue driving north along the ridgeline road 1.6 miles to the restroom and parking lot at the Bullion Pasture Trailhead. Follow trail 074 1.5 miles down into Bullion Canyon to the well-signed junction with trail 216 (The Pocket Trail). From there, enjoy the amazing sights the Pocket Trail has to offer you!
